Web Accessibility Facts

  • Between 1997 to 2002 “websites became progressively inaccessible, whereas their complexity increased”. (Leuthold, Bargas-Avila, & Opwis, 2008)
  • In 2012 only 51% of government sites mentioned the term accessibility in their websites whereas only 14 percent of “top websites” did (Hanson & Richards, 2013)
  • “Deeper analysis of accessibility indicators ... may reveal more accessibility problems” (Hanson & Richards, 2013)
  • “Fixing a problem after a product is released is 10 times more costly than when the same problem is fixed during the development, and 100 times more costly than when it is fixed during the design.” (Loiacono & Djamasbi, 2011)
